  • Divide children into groups and allocate a 'sound ' to each group e.g. clapping hands; drum or plastic bucket; sing; tap the desk. A leader will show a flash card indicating which group should play along with the song.

  • Make your own sound flash cards by drawing the sounds e.g. hands to represent 'clapping ', a face to represent 'singing ' , a drum or bucket to represent drumming, a desk to represent tapping the desk.
  • Laminate the cards for longevity.


  • Explore 'Rock and Roll ' moves e.g. twisting, shaking etc. Listen to "Hey Baby Let 's Rock and Roll" and ask children to suggest ideas for moves to go with each verse.
  • Watch the video song on YouTube and compare the actions with their own ideas.
  • Play the instrumental version of the song and match the moves.


  • Play an imaginary rock and roll instrument e.g. an air guitar, drums


  • Sing and read along to the YouTube song to achieve multi-sensory learning "Do it, see it and hear it!"

  • Read the song lyrics - ask children a variety of questions.
  • Re-read the song lyrics and ask children to join in.
  • Recognise and use a variety of punctuation when reading. " " ! ? . ,
  • Look at print and conventions (bold, italics).
  • Talk about interesting/challenging words and discuss what they mean.
  • Word study - phonic knowledge, compound words, rhyming word, contractions etc.
