Teachers

Maths Card Game

  • Write the three times tables on a coloured piece of card e.g. 3x1=3, 3x2=6
  • Separately cut out each equation to make a set of cards.
  • Put the set into a zip lock bag and label “Three Times Table”.
  • Split the children up into groups of three. One child is the ‘teacher’ and the other two children are the players. The teacher pulls out a card and reads the equation e.g. 3x7=? Whoever answers the correct number gets the card. Play until all cards have been pulled out. At the end count up how many cards each player has. Who has the most?

Word problem

  • Mark has 3 blocks of chocolate. Each block of chocolate has 4 pieces. How many pieces of chocolate does Mark have altogether? 3x4=12
  • Brainstorm different ways of solving this question e.g. draw, use materials, image, pair up with a buddy etc.

Music

  • Watch the three times table video song and chant along.
  • Can you answer the three times table random test?
  • Discuss the number patterns that are shown during the three times table random test.
  • Skip counting in 3’s. Sing to the instrumental version of jingle bells “Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way, oh what fun it is to ride on a one horse opened sleigh” 3, 6, 9,__ 12, 15__18, 21 __24, 27, 30, 33

Visual arts

  • Skip counting lacing plates – you will need a paper plate, string, whole puncher and a vivid.
  • In the middle of the plate write 3.
  • On the outside of the plate in the same format as a clock write 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30 in random order
  • Use the whole puncher to create holes on top of each answer.
  • Put the piece of string through the number 3 (on the outside of the plate) and lace in order -skip counting in twos.
