  • Choose a tambourine, sleigh bells, finger cymbals, shakers or make the Jingle Bell Bracelets (as below in the Visual Art section) and play along to the rhythm (short and long sounds that fit over an underlying beat) or the beat (the steady pulse) of the song.
  • View the video song of Jingle Bells and compare the playing of instruments.
  • Challenge: Sing along to the instrumental version also great for concerts and performances!

Visual Art

  • Make your own 'Jingle Bell Bracelet ' by using bells and a pipe cleaner or plastic string. You can use more than one bell and have a variety of different sizes. Thread the bells onto a pipe cleaner or plastic string and then twist the ends of the pipe cleaner together to form a circle. Fit to wrist size.

Drama

  • Pretend you are riding around in a sleigh. Teacher plays a beat with one of the instruments as suggested in the Music section. Vary the tempo - fast, medium or slow and children ride around on their sleigh being aware of their own 'space bubble. '

Literacy

  • Sing and read along to the YouTube song to achieve multi-sensory learning "Do it, see it and hear it!"

Print out the song PDF

  • Read the song lyrics - ask children a variety of questions.
  • Re-read the song lyrics and ask children to join in.
  • Recognise and use a variety of punctuation when reading. " " ! ? . ,
  • Look at print and conventions (bold, italics).
  • Talk about interesting/challenging words and discuss what they mean.
  • Word study - phonic knowledge, compound words, rhyming word, contractions etc.
